the reason it is so big is it has a hell of a lot of points or nodes. Look at it in outline mode and you'll see. It also seems to have stray points or nodes. In Illustrator there is a command to delete stray points but I don't think so in Inkscape. Stray points make files bug and add nothing to the design. Anyway it should be simplified to make it smaller.
