Ubuntu 8.10, Inkscape 0.46dev, GIMP 2.6, AthlonXP 2600+
I use bitmap samples of wood for body, neck & fretboard, respectively - merbau, maple, ebony. I've found them at Google Images.
For potenciometer plate I create texture, looks like stainless steel.
In Gimp I make seamless tiles from wood textures and then used them for coloring of the body.
In that work I teach clip & mask tool of Inkscape, also feather was very interesting to use.
