Japanese New Years - Kadomatsu

'Kadomatsu' is a decorative bamboo thing that is put up in Japan around New Years. It is similar in size to a western Christmas tree and it is put in similar places outside. (Although it isn't ever put in living rooms!) This is a symbol of New Years, in a Japanese way.
