A Gent and a Lady - 1917

A gentleman kindly stands as his oddly haired partner (is that a star wars hairdo?!) looks up at him from her book. I wonder what she is reading? Is he reading it too? Is that why she is looking up and seems annoyed? No one likes someone reading over their shoulder!
