Bucket and serchlight theories of mind
by smok - uploaded on November 25, 2014, 6:08 am
Karl Popper described two views on how the mind learn about the world. In bucket theory, the mind is a "container" that is filled with content provided by senses. In the searchlight theory, the mind actively "picks out" elements of reality and places them is a subjective perspective. The bucket in the image is inspired by a figure from Popper's "Objective Knowledge". The searchlight is an attempt to illustrate the serchlight mind in an analogical way.
