fundación de ciudades por los españoles en argentina, fundaciones en el Valle de Jujuy, La primera se llamó Ciudad de Nieva, fundada por Gregorio de Castañeda el 20 de agosto de 1561, por disposición de Juan Pérez de Zurita, gobernador de Tucumán; en donde actualmente se emplaza el barrio Ciudad de Nieva.

La segunda ciudad fundada se llamó San Francisco de Alava, el 13 de octubre de 1575 por don Pedro Ortiz de Zárate, en la unión de los rios Grande y Xibi Xibi, lugar conocido como Punta diamante.

La fundación definitiva la llevó a cabo Francisco de Argañarás y Murguía con el nombre de “San Salvador de Velazco en el Valle de Jujuy” el 19 de abril de 1593, en donde actualmente está ubicada la plaza Belgrano.
