Kinue Hitomi was a Japanese track & field athlete. She was the first Japanese woman to win an Olympic medal in 1928. She sadly faced a lot of gender discrimination back home at the time, and died too soon of pneumonia in 1931. (Based on an old public domain photo of her.)
