I've been using Inkscape 1.3 for some time now and I like the new pattern window. It makes patterns easier to use. Here, for example, I've used the Brick pattern and also Polka dots (small and large).

FYI: this drawing was born of the desire to fit this character into a rectangle the size of an A4 sheet... a bit like artists do when they draw kings and queens on playing cards.
