Pure Natural Background - REVENGE REMIX

When you are the victim of an assault, a beating, harassment or injustice, it is tempting to take the law into your own hands, immediately, without a court case and without calling the police.

Personally, I think this doesn't solve anything, and only makes things worse. Revenge is the law of the jungle, chaos and an endless cycle of suffering.

In my opinion, if you're lucky enough to live in a real democracy (like Belgium, where I live), you have to trust your country's judges and justice system. Because every crime or aggression must be tried and punished. And also because anyone accused of a crime has the right to defend himself... even if he's a bad person, an inhuman monster.

Of course, the courts are sometimes unfair. But, in this case, a democracy authorizes demonstrations and allows everyone to militate politically to change the law before a parliament (or a congress of representatives of the people). Recourse to the independant press is another way of denouncing an unfair judgment. There are also appeals to other jurisdictions (In Europe, there's the European Court of Human Rights https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Court_of_Human_Rights ).

In this clipart, we see abused women taking revenge on their aggressors. One man is locked up, the other humiliated and tied up, perhaps to kill (or scare) him. Another man (innocent) is in hiding, terrorized by this kind of settling of scores. This kind of immediate revenge (like internet bashing) can lead to further injustice and engender an endless cycle of violence.

That's why I believe that victims of gender-based violence must first and foremost lodge a complaint, get a lawyer and fight their attackers fairly, in a court of law and before a professional judge.

In a democracy, justice is often slow and requires personal commitment to prove the facts. It's a real ordeal that requires patience. But I can't think of a better way to rebuild one's life, to live in peace and to make amends to those who have been attacked and deeply wounded.

But the judges' judgment is not enough. Then you need institutions to take care of the victim and compensate for his suffering. The victim must also be compensated with money.

And last but not least, we need humane prisons to care for the accused, the criminals. Because they need to be able to change during their confinement and become good. Good prisons are expensive for democracies, but there's always a positive return on investment when you take care of human beings.
