A little clarification:

In my opinion, to fight evil, you can't hurt people (others or yourself). Violence is not a solution, except in extreme cases. The ideal (in my opinion) is to deflect evil with good, through respect and reflection, knowledge (science). But a lot also depends on the context in which we live, because in times of war, knowledge is difficult to acquire. Immediate survival takes precedence.
