So phil wrestles with bugs like numeria wrestles with dragons, and sometimes they win. I wrote all this stuff but when i put the dates into the julian date converter i used month, year instead of year, month. so here is a (much larger and more correct, but of course still not purrfect) orrery...

happy samhain! in honor of all the witches burned / for saying the wrong things to the wrong people, / this orrery begins in february 1602, / when giordano bruno was burned by the church. / it goes until february 2200, / when this sort of thing should be extinct. one can hope.

we have progressed - you can see the planets go around, and bruno is now a symbol of free speech in rome - but people are still muzzled in new ways for saying the wrong things to the wrong people.

it works by using the orbital paths in the svg as a database; you specify a range with the # - someones lifetime for example, like carl sagan #11,1934,12,1996,1 - and set the options with the ?. / makes a mandala, - shows the orbits, * shows the planets orbiting (more * for more speed), + sets the zoom (more..), and = hides the extra stuff (more..). use ! to plot immediately (needed with ===== which turns off the buttons :-) the data is sampled every 11 days; use the last number on the range to skip (2 plots every other, 3 every third)
