Mummering

Today I learned about mummering, which is a house-visiting tradition practiced around Christmas in Newfoundland and Labrador and a few other places. It usually has a group of family/friends who dress up in a mask or disguise and visit various homes in their neighborhood during the twelve days of Christmas. When the masked mummers are welcomed into a house they go to, they apparently do some kind of performance like music or jokes etc. After that, the people in the house offer the mummers food/drink and have to try to guess who the masked visitors are. Fascinating Christmas culture! (This started life as ai art, but I had to modify it a lot to try to match the topic...)
