The Block Version of the Thin Maze
- A thin tall maze, block version. Think of it as having to cross a bottomless pit with a set of bridges built over it. Only one set of bridges leads to the other side of the pit. At any point over the pit, there are at most nine bridges spanning over its width.
That may make the maze simple and easy to solve (cross safely over the pit). Do not be deceived! The other dimension of this maze (i.e., how tall it is) requires you to cross over 255 bridges. They all lead somewhere. Sadly, most of them don’t lead to the other side of the pit. Luckily, this is a perfect maze. That means there is a set of bridges leading from any place to any other place within the maze. It also means there is only one set of bridges connecting any two places within the maze.
And remember, my dear traveler, while you’re crossing the pit, moving from one point to the next, you do not see the entire maze, nor do you have a map (well, I suppose if you click download, this is the map). You only see at most one step ahead, one step back, one step left, and one step right.
Whatever you do, as long as you stay on a bridge, any bridge, even if you’re lost, you’re safe. You can always turn around and try a different path. But try to jump from one bridge to another, you fall into the bottomless pit and the power of gravity will crush you!
So, watch your step and remember, the pit is dark, the bridges light.
