Can there be a flower without thorns? can there be thorns without a flower? i described an artist i admire as having creating a 'rose with thorns' - beauty and pain mixed in the right proportions. would she have created the beauty if not for the pain? would it be as beautiful without the thorns? these are thorny questions.
